Greek vision of planet earth
Hesiod - Theogony
Creation
In the beginning there was Chaos
From Chaos was born Eros, Tartarus, Gaia, Erebus, Nyx
From Gaia was born Ourea, Pontus, and Uranus
Castration of Uranus
Gaia and Uranus had 3 types of children
Titans - original 12
Cyclops (“circle-eyed”)
There were 3: Brontes, Steropes, and Arges
They made Zeus’ lightning bolt
Hecatoncheires (“hundred-handed ones”) (heck - uh - tonk - uh - rees)
There were 3:Cottus, Briareos, and Gyes
Uranus decided that the Hecatoncheires and Cyclops were too ugly and too powerful and so locked them in Tartarus
Gaia didn’t like this and took revenge by asking the Titans to cut his genitals off with this cool sickle she made and overthrown him
Only Cronus was brave enough and used a scythe to do the deed
From the blood that fell was born the Furies, Meliai, and Giants
Some of the blood fell into the sea foam and created Aphrodite
Children of the Night (Nyx)
without needing anyone else, she has many children: The fates, Thanatos, Hypnos, the Oneiroi, Momus, Oixys, the Hesperides,
The hesperides guard the golden apples
The fates are named Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, and are respectively, the spinner of the thread of each mans life, the disposer of lots who assigns each mans destiny, and she who cannot be turned, the one with shears
They always punishing sinners
Nyx also had Nemesis, Apate, Philotes, Geras, and Eris
Eris then gave birth to Ponos, Lethe, Limos, The Algea, The Hysminai, The Makhai, The Phonoi, The Androktasiai, The Neikea, The Pseudologoi, The Amphilogiai, Dysnomia, Ate, Horkos
The ones titles “The” are demons / spirits of various things

If you count that should be all 50 of them - they are the sea nymphs or Nereides
Thaumas mated with Elektra to have Iris and the Harpyiai called Aello and okypete who are responsible for the wind
The Bestiary
Ceto and Phorcys had the Graiae, sea hags with gray hair from birth, called Perphredo and Enyo
They also had the Gorgons: Hesperides, Sthenno, Euryale, and Medusa. Medusa was the only mortal one. She lay with Poseiden and then got decapitated by Perseus and so were born Pegasus (named that because it was born near the springs or pegae) and Chrysaor (named that because he had a golden blade or aor)
Pegasus flew off to bring Zeus his lightning and thunder
Chrysaor mated with Callirrhoe and gave birth to the Geryones, which Hesiod says has three heads but the same website describes as three bodied so…,
He lived in a place called Erythea and Hercules came to visit for sheep stealing purposes and in the process killed Orthus and Eurytion and Geryones
Ceto and Phorcys also had Echidna - a half nymph half snake who had a cave deep underground
Echidna and Typhaon had several children
|Orthus - the guard dog of Geryones
Cerberus - Hades guard dog with 50 heads
The Hydra - Which Hera got mad at and told Hercules to kill and found that 2 heads grew for every one he cut off but he and Iolaus were able to burn the heads
Chimaera - three headed, firebreathing creature with one head of a lion, one of a dragon and one of a goat. She was killed by the hero Bellerophon who rode Pegasus. Chimera had 2 children with Orthus

Rhea and Cronus had some kids
Hestia, Demeta, Hera, Hades, Zeus
Cronus swallowed them so he wouldnt get overthrown like he did to his father
he also got a prophecy that it would happen
This made Rhea sad so she planned a way to overtake Cronus
Rhea had Zeus in Crete on an island and fed Cronos a stone wrapped in blankets
Eventually he did vomit up the stone and leave it near the tomb of Neoptolemus
So Zeus freed his siblings and they gave him thunder and lightning and rulership
Prometheus
Iapetus and Clymene had children
Atlas, Menoetius, Promethius, Epimetheus
Zeus was mad about some mischief that Hesiod doesn’t really get into and punishes Prometheus by sending him to |Hell, chaining him, and having an eagle eat his liver everyday
Hercules freed Prometheus by killing the bird which Hesiod emphasizes is okay because Zeus is cool with it now
Prometheus also proved his cleverness one time by cutting and portioning some ox meat so that one plate seemed like it had more but was mostly bone and so Zeus took that one
Cronus freed the other 2 species from Tartarus and the Titans became the new gods with Cronus as leader
As leader Cronus became paranoid and locked Hecatoncheires and Cyclops in Tartarus again
Second Revolution (Titanomachy)
When Rhea became pregnant Uranus prophesied that Cronus’ children will overthrow him as he overthrow Uranus
This scares Cronus so he swallows his first 5 children. Only the sixth and youngest Zeus survives unswallowed because Rhea tricks Zeus into eating a rock and then abandons the child o the island of Crete
Zeus went ahead and freed his siblings from Cronus’ stomach and fought the titans for power
Then they had to fight the Giants who were not immortal but were more powerful. Won with the help of Hercules
General vibes of the Olympians
basically people - same desires, flaws, strengths etc Look like people but usually prettier and stronger
Since anyone could be a god, Greeks were hospitable to people - they might be a god so be nice
Exceptions to being people
able to transform and teleport
cant die or get sick
